Joy and I met, well, when I was born. She is six years older than me - that's right - I am NOT the older of the two. We are very different in personality and under normal circumstances we probably would not have been as close as we are now. But by God's grace we have gone through the thick and thins of life together and we are sisters and best friends. Joy helped me become the person that I am today. She practically helped raise me when we were living by ourselves in South Africa and she was the one that really led me to Christ. She became the first Christian in our immediate family and prayed for me relentlessly. She knows all of my worst traits and inadequacies but loves me regardless. I am grateful for the relationship we have and I know I always have someone to depend on in her. Her support means the world to me and I am very happy that she is one of my matron of honor.
Matron of Honor - Amanda DeBree
Amanda and I met first year of vet school. We took the same bus to classes and we were both part of the Christian veterinary fellowship. We became roommates starting our second year and have become the closest of friends ever since. We share a deep love for brownies, fluffy creatures, and God. Even though she moved down south after vet school we talk almost every day before I go to work. We confide in each other our prayer needs, work stories, and just about everything else in our lives. I am so grateful to have her as a friend and a sister in Christ and I am so happy to have her as my matron of honor.
Bridesmaid - Melissa Cavazos
Melissa and I met through work. She was a technician at the animal hospital that I work at and until she took on her teaching position we pretty much saw each other every day at work. Melissa and I share a passion for food and wine. The two of us have literally stuffed our faces and drank ourselves silly at multiple restaurants throughout the Sacramento area. But more than that Melissa has been a very caring friend and a lot of fun to be around with. We joke that she is the female version of David - outgoing, gregarious, slightly out there but genuine and true to herself and others. She is a true friend and a confidant.
Bridesmaid - Joyce Chou
Joyce and I met first year of college. We were both Animal Science majors at UC Davis and we both didn't bother to check whether or not we were suppose to show up at our sheep lab the first day of school. We ran into each other at the barn and discovered that we were both from Taiwan and we hit it off then. Starting my third year of college we became roommates - and got to know each other really well. After graduation she moved back home to San Jose but we kept in touch. Neither of us is really good at contacting the other frequently but whenever we get together again it's like the old times - good long conversations where we crack each other up and lots of pigging out. We are so different yet similar in many regards. We had joked that we would probably both be single for the rest of our lives and end up in a nursing home together. Unfortunately I am not going to be fulfilling that prediction with her but I know we will still be friends when we're old and gray.
