The Proposal
The proposal was definitely a surprise. David and I had been talking about getting married in the near future for a few months but he knew that he would have to ask my dad first and I knew that he wanted to be a little more stable with his job first. My father was suppose to come into town in August and I figured that maybe at that time David would ask him. So when I woke up on the morning of June 12th I was totally not expecting a proposal that day.
David had come over that morning to do devotions with me before I went into work. We prayed together and read a chapter in Proverbs. I then went into my backyard to water my potted plants - wearing scrubs, socks, and a pair of flip-flops. As I was watering the plants David asked me: "Do you want to go somewhere for dinner tonight?" I asked him why and he said: "Because we might have something to celebrate!" I was still confused and that's when David pulled out a box and knelt down in front of me, right next to my garden hose and potted plants and proceeded to ask me to marry him.
Exactly what he said I can't really remember now (sorry honey!) but I remember the minute he got down I started crying - and so did he. He had the exact type of ring I liked sitting in the ring box but I could barely see straight because of the tears in my eyes. It was a total surprise and felt totally spontaneous.
After I said yes I asked him if he had asked my dad already and he said he did, just the night before. He also told me that he had gotten the ring more than a month ago, that he planned all week to ask my father, and that as soon as my father said yes he just couldn't wait any more to ask me to marry him. It was a very sweet and romantic proposal that I could never have come up with and will remember for the rest of my life.
